Edward W. "Ed" Havers (87)of 1015 Delaware Ave, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 12, 2014 at the Cuba Memorial Hospital Palliative Care unit, following a lengthy illness.
Ed was born March 18, 1927 in Lapeer, MI and was a son of Stewart and Carrie Wheeler Havers. On Jan. 6, 1944, in Olean, he married his childhood friend and later adult sweetheart, Mary Beliles, who survives. They knew each other since the ages of 6 & 7 in the Randolph children home, when they would play together.
Ed served in the Army from 1944 to 1945. He began working at Clark Brothers in 1945, where he retired from Dresser Rand in 1982, after 37 years as a supervisor. Ed was almost a 50 year member and Past Master of the Olean Enchanted Mountain Lodge #252 F&AM, where he was a 32nd Degree Mason. He was also a member of the Christ United Methodist Church.
Ed had numerous interests and hobbies including hunting (Shooting a Bear in 2012) and fishing, playing cards, traveling (Including a trip to Greece), gardening, and lending a helping hand at his son's establishment "State King" and breeding purebred beagles. But what he most enjoyed was being very active in his grandchildren's lives and going to all their activities.
Along with his loving wife, Ed is survived by one son, Edward J. (Dorothy J. Cashimere) Havers of Olean; five grandchildren, Jeff (Mary Ann) Hancock of Rochester, Yvonne (Lloyd) Sweet of Cuba, Jon Paul Havers of Olean, Daniel (Patricia) Havers of Georgia, and Rodney (Janelle) Havers of Olean; many great grandchildren; and one great great granddaughter.
Ed was predeceased by one son, Danny Lavern Havers; one grandson, Eddie Joel Robinson; and eight siblings, Leon, Kirk, Stewart, Bill, Ron, Marie, Beatrice, and Margie.
Friends will be received Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2014 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. #646 E. State Street Olean. Friends will also be received at the Christ United Methodist Church, #633 Linwood Avenue, Olean on Thursday, Oct. 16, 2014 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM, at which time a Funeral Service will be held. The Rev. Suzanne M. Block, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will be at Allegany Cemetery with full military honor's accorded by Members of the Ritual Team of the Allegany American Legion Charles Harble Post #892. Members of the Olean Enchanted Lodge 252 will hold a memorial service in the Funeral Home Wednesday evening at 7:30 pm.
