Bolivar – Doris Elaine Childs “Loving Mother, Grandmother & Sister”

 

Doris E. Childs of County Route 5 passed away on Thursday, October 12, 2023, at the Wellsville Manor following a brief illness.

 

Doris was born on February 6, 1934, in Olean and was the daughter of George L. and Mae V. Hamilton Collins. On August 24, 1952, at the Portville Methodist Church she married Leon Norwood Childs who predeceased her on November 11, 2004.

 

Doris was a 1952 graduate of Portville Central School. She worked at Portville Central School for over 25 years where she retired as a Cafeteria Manager after 12 years in the late 1990s. Throughout her life she enjoyed making cakes for all occasions, especially wedding cakes. Doris worked part time at the Free Portville Library after her retirement. In her free time Doris enjoyed stamping and making her own holiday and greeting cards, as well as researching and documenting family history and ancestors. She was a member of the OBI Community Church for several years and was a member of the National Honor Society.

 

Doris is survived by her 2 sons, Mark A. (Cheryl) Childs of Obi and Brad L. (Terri) Childs of Scio, 8 grandchildren: Jessica Arago, Jason Childs, Garrett Childs, Melissa Baxter, Garth Childs, Miranda Childs, Emily Long, and Morgan Roberts, her 5 siblings: Donna (John) Dudek, Williamsville, Ellen (Dennis) Pridemore of West Virginia, Sandy Collins, Nancy (Steve) Urbaniak, and Steve (Fillis) Collins all of Buffalo, many nieces, and nephews.

 

Doris was predeceased by her loving husband, Norwood, brother, Donald Collins, and her sister, Phyllis Collins.

 

Friends will be received at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., 24 Genesee Pkwy, Cuba on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, from 11:00 to 1:00pm where a service will be held. The Rev. David Cook, Pastor of the Obi Community Church will officiate. of Online condolences may be made at www.LetroMcIntoshSpinkFuneralHome.com
