Hinsdale – Donald J. Nolan “Loving Husband, Father, Brother & Grandfather”
Donald J. Nolan of Sherlock Hollow Hinsdale, formerly of Allegany, passed away on Wednesday December 1st, 2021 shortly after arrival at the Olean General Hospital.
Don was born in Olean, on March 27th, 1949, the son of James and Dolores Zink Nolan. On February 21st, 2005, he married his loving wife, the former Sharon R Washington, who survives him.
Don was a 1968 graduate of Allegany Central School. Following graduation in March of 1969, he was drafted into the US Army and served in Vietnam and was honorably discharged on December 27th, 1971. He worked at Dresser Clark initially followed by several years at OSM before working at Cutco for 23 years, retiring on March 1st, 2014. After his retirement he obtained his CDL truck driver’s license and drove truck for a period of time because he loved seeing the country.
Don was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Allegany. He enjoyed hunting, horseback riding, golf, and especially being a member of the Portville Conservation Club and the Allegany American Legion, Charles Harbel Post 892. Don loved his animals especially his dog Ollie and his horse Zip and was an avid fan of the Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 16 years, are his children, Christopher Nolan of Machias, Mark (Erin) Nolan of Portville, two stepsons, Daniel John (Nicole) Washington Jr., Justin (Janel) Washington of Limestone, six grandchildren, two sisters; Susan (Jeffrey) Hines and Anne Marie Nolan both of Allegany, and a brother, Michael Nolan of Niagara Falls.
Don was predeceased by his parents.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Burial will be held on Tuesday Dec. 7, 2021 at 10:00 am in the Cattaraugus County Veteran's Field of honor in Mt. View Cemetery, Olean, with full military honors preformed by the Allegany American Legion Charles Harbol Post #892 Ritual Team. Arrangements are under the direction of the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., 646 E. State St., Olean.
