Portville – Donald R. Hood "Loving Father, Grandfather, & Brother"
Donald R. Hood, formerly of 974 Portville-Olean Road, passed away on Thursday, February 18, 2021, at the Hospice of Orleans in Albion, following a lengthy illness.
Don was born on July 23, 1956 in Lancaster and was a son of Victor and Irene Glow Hood. On October 5, 1985 in Stafford, he married his wife of 30 years, Lynda E. Sparatta, who predeceased him on July 26, 2016.
Don was a 1973 graduate of Lancaster High School. He began working at Dresser Industries in Depew in 1970, as well as, working for the Mail Service. Don worked for Lewis Tree Service in the 1980's and then he worked as a carpenter for Style Craft Homes in the 1990's. He then moved to Florida where he continued working as a carpenter. After returning to Olean, Don then went to work for George Weston Bakeries which is now Stroehmann's. He then worked as a truck driver for Schneider Trucking. Don began working in the Oil Fields for Superior Well Service and Nabor's Wells in Bradford, PA. He then became a truck driver for different companies including Praxair delivering gas, where he retired in 2016.
Don was a member of the St. Mary of the Angels Church. He enjoyed woodworking, being outdoors, gardening, hunting, fishing, and kayaking.
Don is survived by; 3 children, Shane M. (Colleen) Hood of Allegany, Melynda T. (Jason) Strawser of Painted Post, and Megan M. Sikorski of West Seneca; 3 grandchildren, Mason Strawser, Luke Hood, and Matthew Hood; 5 siblings, James (Di Yang) Hood of Albion, Sharon Basehart of Boynton Beach, FL, William (Helen) Hood of Lancaster, Victor (Donna) Hood, Jr. of Franklinville, and Maryann Hood of Lancaster; and many nieces and nephews.
Along with his loving wife, Don was predeceased by 2 brothers, Michael and Thomas Hood.
Friends will be received at the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels, 202 South Union Street, Olean, on Saturday, February 27, 2021 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, at which time a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held. The Rev. David E. Tourville, Pastor, will celebrate.
