Olean – Diane M. Buckley "Loving Mother & Grandmother"
Diane M. Buckley, of Eden Heights, formerly of 2610 McCann Hollow Road, passed away on Friday, January 29, 2021, at the Harris Hill Nursing Facility in Williamsville, following complications from COVID-19.
Diane was born on May 28, 1932 in Olean and was a daughter of Vernon and Ivah Slinker Travis. On February 7, 1953, at the Olean First Baptist Church, she married the love of her life, her husband of 57 years, Robert G. Buckley, who predeceased her on December 29, 2010.
Diane was a 1950 graduate of Olean High School. She attended Bryant and Stratton College in Buffalo, participating in their secretarial program. Diane and Bob, owned and operated Olean Creative Mailing Services, beginning in 1983 until their retirement.
Diane's life was well-lived, full of love for her family and friends. She and Bob had a passion for travel. Their wanderlust took them to Europe, the western states and Alaska. Their favorite travel destinations were Maine, Williamsburg, VA, and Jekyll Island, GA, where they spent many happy times with family.
Diane and Bob were avid gardeners and enjoyed putting up the produce they would grow. they were known for their annual sauerkraut gathering where it was not unusual for 1,000 pounds of cabbage to be shredded, salted, and pounded in barrels by family and friends on a crisp October afternoon.
Diane will be remembered as a loving wife, and a devoted mother and grandmother. She loved to entertain, and will remembered for all the wonderful parties she threw with all the amazing dishes she took the time to prepare for them.
Diane will be sorely missed by her; son, Gregory T. (Donna) Buckley of Olean; daughter, Valerie A. (Michael) Kane of Olean; 4 adored grandchildren, Alison (Adam) Hellwig of Skaneateles, Megan Kane of Syracuse, Travis (Emma) Buckley of Cortland, and Matthew Buckley of Olean; 5 great grandchildren, Landon, Dash, Knox, and Isla Hellwig, and Jameson Buckley; a beloved sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Harvey Galloway of Lexington, VA; and many special nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Private Service will be held Today, February 1, 2021 at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., 646 East State Street, Olean. A Public Celebration of Diane's Life is being planned for a date and time to be announced. Burial will be in Allegany Cemetery.
