Cletus E. Johnson

Mr. Cletus "Bud" Johnson of 1209 Washington Street passed away Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at the Olean General Hospital. Mr. Johnson was born in Olean on January 4, 1929 and was the son of Cletus C. and Gertrude Hazen Johnson. On May 3, 1952, he married the former G. Pauline Stives, who survives. Mr. Johnson was a 1947 graduate of Olean High School. He served in the Army National Guard for 21 years. Mr. Johnson was the founder - owner of Johnson Distributing which he operated for 41 years, after which time his son took over the business. He was President of the Olean Rod and Gun Club for 22 years. Mr. Johnson will be remembered for his 30 years of stock car racing at the local area race tracks. He loved hunting, trap shooting and golf, he made many trips to South Dakota for pheasant hunting. But most of all he loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild. In addition to his wife, Mr. Johnson is survived by a son, Jerold (Kris) Johnson of Olean; a daughter, Susan (Richard Bird) Johnson of Olean; a son-in-law, Robert (Mary Ann) Chambers of Olean; a brother, Howard (Fran) Johnson of Largo, FL.; six grandchildren; and one great grandchild. There will be no public visitation or funeral services. Burial will be at the convience of the family. Friends will be received at the family home at 1209 Washington Street, Olean on Friday, May 1, 2009 from 6-9 pm and Saturday, May 2, 2009 from 1-5 pm. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice. Arrangements are under the direction of the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. #646 E. State Street, Olean.
