Clair E. "Speed" Guinnip of 4309 E. Sciota St., passed away on Sunday, April 16, 2017, at his home surrounded by his wife and loving family.
Speed was born on Sept. 14, 1932 in Belmont and was a son of Rufus M. and Louise Cowles Guinnip. On July 12, 1958 at the Methodist Church in Hornell, he married his wife of 58 years Katheline M. Muchler, who survives.
Speed attended the Allentown and Scio Schools. He served in the US Army from Dec. 3, 1952 to Dec. 2, 1954, during the Korean War as a machine gunner, and he received medals. Speed having worked at several jobs, retired from Dresser Rand in Wellsville in 1995, with 30 years of Service.
Speed was a 50 year plus dedicated member of the Scio Fire Department. He served 25 years as a District Coordinator (DC 3) for Allegany County. In his younger years, he enjoyed camping and hunting, but most of all Speed's family was his life.
Along with his loving wife, Speed is survived by two daughters, Donna L. Dean and Judy A. (Richard) Fanton both of Scio; four grandchildren, Jeffery (Kelley) Crittenden of Burns, TN, Jennifer (Josh) Goodridge of Scio, Cody (Jessica) Dean of Scio, and Kyle (Deanna) Fanton of Scio; seven great grandchildren, Aralyn, Mercedez, Noah, Harper, Holden, Brantley, & Blake; his beloved dog, Chloe; one sister, Leola Perkins of Wellsville; and several nieces & nephews.
Speed was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Merle, Rufus Jr., Glen, and Sherm Guinnip; and two sisters, Doris Boland and Barbara Walsh.
All are invited to a Memorial Service and Luncheon that will be held at the Scio Community Center on Sunday, April 30 2017 at 12:00 PM. Burial will be in Fair Lawn Cemetery, Scio. Full military honors will be accorded by the Wellsville American Legion Post #702.
