Charles E. Stanford of 102 West Spring Street, passed away Friday, Jan. 9, 2015 at his home, following an illness. Charles was born on June 21, 1927 in East Ville, VA and was a son of Jerome and Ruth Baker Stanford. He was formerly marred to Jessie Battles. On August 21, 1963 in Howard, he married his wife of 51 years, Garland I. Collins, who survives. For many years Charles worked two jobs at the same time. He worked full time at Stern Textiles in Hornell and part time at Auckland Farms in Arkport until his retirement in 1989. He lived in Seattle, WA for four years and moved to Olean in 2010. Charles enjoyed playing bingo and going to Atlantic City. Along with his loving wife, Charles is survived by six children, Edward Stanford of Dunkirk, Curtis Stanford of Phoenix, AZ, Paul Stanford of Hornell, Angel Young of Olean, Amy Stanford of Seattle, WA, and Matthew (Anna) Stanford of Seattle, WA; many grandchildren & great grandchildren; a brother, Quincy (Alley) Stanford of New Jersey; and several nieces & nephews. Charles was predeceased by an infant daughter, Andrea Stanford in 1978; a daughter, Ann Stanford in 2009; and three siblings, Jerome, Elizabeth, and Louis Stanford. Friends will be received in the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home #646 E. State Street, Olean, on Wednesday Jan. 14, 2015 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at which time Funeral and committal services will be held. The Rev. Tyrone Hall will officiate. Burial will be in the Arkport Cemetery, Arkport, NY. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 197 Summer Street, Buffalo, New York 14222.
