Daughter of Michael and Mary (Murray) Brady Wilmington, MA.
Sister Catherine Michael was received into the Congregation of the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany, NY at St. Elizabeth Motherhouse on August 15, 1946 and professed her final religious vows on August 16, 1953. Sister Catherine Michael devoted herself to the life and Mission of the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany for more than 70 years.
Sister attended grade school at Whitefield and Center, both in Wilmington, MA from 1925-32. She went on to Wilmington Jr. High and in 1934, entered Wilmington High School, graduating in 1938. After answering the call to religious life with the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany, Sister Catherine Michael continued her studies at St. Elizabeth Teacher�s College (now a part of St. Bonaventure University), and in 1965, earned a B.S. Degree in Education, including a minor in English.
Throughout her life with the Order, Sister ministered primarily in the field of education. She delighted in teaching the younger grades, often leading remedial reading clinics during both regular and summer school hours. She also provided religious education classes, along with the standard curriculum, while stationed at various Congregational schools in New York, North Carolina, New Jersey and Florida. After Sr. Catherine Michael relocated to the St. Elizabeth Motherhouse in Allegany, NY in 1972, she volunteered as an aid in the Infirmary where she enjoyed working with her older sisters. She also assisted with various household tasks as needed and for a time, also filled in with clerical assistance to the St. Elizabeth Mission Society.
Sister Catherine Michael is predeceased by her parents, Michael and Mary.
There will be no Wake Service. A funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at 9:00 AM in the Chapel of St. Elizabeth Motherhouse, followed by burial in St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany, NY.
