Bruce A. Hollowell of Tampa, FL formerly of Olean passed away at his home, Thursday, January 26, 2012, following an illness. Born in Alma, NY on November 16, 1929, he was the son of Leon and Edith Seeley Hollowell. On December 22, 1993 at the Trinity United Methodist Church he married the former Claudia A. Taylor who survives. Mr. Hollowell served with the U.S. Navy from Dec. 10, 1946 to Feb. 7, 1947. He worked for various companies including AVX in Olean and Kodak in Rochester before moving to Tampa. Where he worked at Badger and then ITT as a Drafting Instructor for a number of years and retired in 1989. In the 1960's, Mr. Hollowell along with his two brothers and two sisters had their own band, the "Western Strings," and they played for a local radio station and various other places. In the 1970's, he was a volunteer EMT in Henrietta, NY. Mr. Hollowell was also a highway safety advocate. Mr. Hollowell enjoyed working around his house doing handy man work including electrical, plumbing & construction. He was a member of the Tampa American Legion and the Nation Rifle Association. Mr. Hollowell was an avid tournament bowler in the 1970's. He also spent a lot of time and enjoyed doing his genealogy and had traced his family back into the 1700's, but above all he enjoyed spending time with his wife and children. Surviving besides his wife are eight children, David (Heather Hamilton) Hollowell of Pilot Point, TX, John Hollowell of San Jose, CA, Brian Hollowell of Amarillo, TX, Roger Hollowell of Elmira, NY, Karen (Dan) Enos of Oak Point, TX, Lori (Tom) Ulp of Rochester NY, Shari (Scott) Michaels of Sodus, NY, and Evelyn (Scott) Welka of Olean; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and nieces & nephews. He is pre-deceased by two brothers Richard & Ronald Hollowell; and two sisters Lorraine Weaver & Elaine Williams. Friends will be received in the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. #646 E. State Street, Olean, Friday Feb 10, 2012 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm and Sat. Feb. 11, 2012 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at which time Funeral Services will be held. The Rev. Bradley D. Chesebro, Pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be at Pleasant Valley Cemetery with full military honors accorded by the Allegany American Legion Charles Harbel Post #892 ritual team.
