Beverly R. Firth

May 7, 1940 — August 7, 2022

Olean- Beverly (“Buzzy”) R. Firth, 82, loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, and great-aunt went Home Sunday (August 7, 2022); her final days were spent surrounded by her loving family. Born May 7, 1940, in Bradford, she was a daughter of the late Marjorie Nadine (Toothman) & Kinsey Cross of Rew. She was a 1958 graduate of Bradford High School. On Dec 10, 1981, she married Lawrence A. Firth and they built a wonderful life together in their Olean home as they combined their lives and loves, always having an annual home project underway. Bev began her career in banking as a teller at First National Bank in Olean in 1958. She rose to the position of branch manager and saw her teams through several transitions as the banks changed ownership throughout the years. She retired from the Olean Federal Credit Union in 2003. The organizational skills and recordkeeping that made her an esteemed banker were evident in all aspects of her life as she maintained thorough notes and organized everyday items. Bev was a member of the First Baptist Church of Olean where she demonstrated her love for Christ through music, in particular serving in both the choir and bell choir, but also through other various works such as frequent nursing home visitations. Buzzy loved others as much as she was loved by others. Small but mighty, her heart outsized her body. While her nickname initially was due to a nephew’s inability to say Beverly, it came to be a perfect name for her as she was always “buzzing” around and active, especially when serving her family and friends or shopping, most often with her sister. She loved spending time with her family and holidays were always very special with decorations for every season and food aplenty. Buzzy could often be found in her kitchen cooking and baking, always taking meticulous notes of what was prepared and the details of the meal, right down to the time the turkey went into the oven and what time dinner was served. While her home always looked like a winter wonderland at Christmas, Thanksgiving was her favorite holiday as she cherished the opportunity to gather for food, family, and fun, always ensuring that everyone’s favorite dishes were served. Everyone should have a Buzzy in their lives. Surviving are her husband (Larry – “Lolo”), her son, Robert (Sylvia) Delaney of Troy, NY, her brother, Tom Cross of Olean, her sister, Sally (Don) Boyer of Easley, SC, two nephews, Don Boyer of West Chester, PA and Mike (Amy) Boyer of Easley, SC, four great-nephews/niece, Alistair, Bella Grace, Luke, and Graham Boyer of Easley, SC, three step children, Aaron Firth, Jennifer Firth, and Faith Maier, and her meticulous notes from every holiday meal she cooked. She was preceded in death by her parents. In keeping with Buzzy’s wishes (she loved to set the rules), a celebration of life will be scheduled and announced later. Memorial contributions, if desired, may be made to the Bradford Ecumenical Home, First Baptist Church of Olean, or the Family Life Network. Arrangements are under the direction of the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., 646 E. State St., Olean. Online condolences may be made at www.letromcintoshspinkfuneralhome.com
