Bernard E. Mazza 91, formerly of 2877 Five Mile Road, Allegany, died Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at the Pines Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Olean.
Mr. Mazza was born Jan. 4, 1921 and he was the son of Emilio and Wilma Bernard Mazza. On November 11, 1945, at the Olean First Baptist Church, JoAnn Rose Wheeler, who survives.
Mr. Mazza was a graduate of Olean High School class of 1940. A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy in the European and African theaters with the VP 63 anti-submarine squadron. Mr. Mazza lived in Friendship for a number of years, where he owned and operated the Friendship Restaurant. He worked with Investors Diversified Services (IDS) for several years. Mr. Mazza retired as the Vice President of the Fleet Bank of Olean.
Mr. Mazza was a member of the Olean First Baptist Church and served as a trustee of the church. He was a 60 year member of the Olean Masonic Lodge #252 and a 32nd degree Mason. Mr. Mazza was a long time member of the Friendship Rotary. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing in Canada.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, JoAnn; two sons, Alan (Jane) Mazza of Eastman, GA, and Mark Mazza of McFarland, WI; two grandsons, Bradley (Candace) Mazza of Eastman, GA, and David (Kimberly) Mazza of Eastman, GA; one great grandson, Benjamin Mazza of Eastman, GA; and several cousins.
Friends will be received in the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. #646 E. State Street, Olean, Monday, Feb 20, 2012 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at which time Funeral Services will be held. The Rev. Dr. Anthony L. Evans, will officiate. Burial will be at the Allegany Cemetery with full military honor's accorded by the Allegany American Legion Charles Harbel Post #892.
