Allegany- Barbara A. Riggs “Loving Wife, Mother, and Grandmother”
Barbara A. Riggs of 3109 N. 7th Street, passed away on Thursday, February 10, 2022 at her home.
Barbara was born on July 27, 1944 in Olean and was the daughter of Norman Edgar and Gertrude Mae Fredrick George. Formerly married to Maynard M. Olin. On December 21, 1990 in Allegany she married her loving husband of 31 years Leland P. Riggs who survives.
Barbara started working at AVX at a very young age. She moved to Florida for a number of years and then returned to Olean. Barbara then returned to work at AVX where she retired from in 2006 after 32 years.
Barbara’s faith was a huge part of her life. She enjoyed going to Walmart to meet and socialize with people. Barbara loved her husband and her family but she truly loved her grandchildren and pets.
Along with her loving husband, Leland, Barbara is survived by; 5 children, Julie L. (David) Tinsley of Clymer, PA, Christy L. Sherlock of Scio, Kelley L. (Christopher Jordan) Olin of Olean, Heidi L. Riggs of Buffalo and Dathan L. Riggs of Salamanca; 6 grandchildren, Joshua, Kimberly, Misty, Caden, Kailey, and Jace; 11 great grandchildren, Keagan Leah, Cloey, Caleb, Lacey, Zack, Ruby, Elijah, Isaiah, Davon, and Ishia; 3 siblings, Dorothy (Dan) Hirt of Allegany, Linda (John) Kemp and William “Bill” George both of Olean; and many nieces and nephews.
Barbara was predeceased by her parents; grandson Kyle J. Stearns; great grandson Oakley J. Cribbs; 2 brothers, Norman “Mickey” George and James George; sister Nancy Bartz ;a son in law James G. Stearns Jr. and a nephew William George Jr.
Friends will be received at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., 646 E. State St., Olean on Wednesday, February 16, 2022 from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm at which time a memorial service will be held.
