Glens Falls – Barbara L. Johnston
Barbara L. Johnston formerly of Portville and Cuba Lake passed away peacefully on Friday March 11th, 2022.
Barbara was born on August 24, 1936, in Johnson City, NY. She was the daughter of Louis and Mary O’Mahen Besaw.
Barbara graduated from Bainbridge Central School and throughout her career worked in administrative assistant roles in law, energy, local government, manufacturing, and transportation. She was also an elected town justice in Dayton and village justice in South Dayton.
Barbara was a faithful attendant of the Bethel Lutheran Church in Portville and later, United Methodist Church in Cuba. She enjoyed social activities and dabbled at the piano. Barbara loved to be active in the outdoors, enjoyed walking, swimming, and bicycling especially around her beloved Cuba Lake. She also enjoyed traveling, music, and dancing through life to the end.
Barbara is survived by her sister, Mary Lou (Richard) Cholewinski of Hernado, FL.; two sons, Scott (Stacy) Renner of Syracuse and Dan (Sarah) Renner of Monroe City, MO.; two daughters, Sandra (Jeff) Keppel of Smethport, PA., and Mary (Jim) Murphy of Glens Falls; 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Barbara was predeceased by her parents, infant son John Renner, her brother Philip Besaw, her husband Robert Johnson, and her former husband Richard Renner.
Family will receive friends at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., 24 Genesee Pkwy, Cuba on Tuesday March 15th, 2022, from 3:00-5:00pm at which time a funeral service will be held. The Rev. Rebecca Worth, Pastor of Cuba United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery Smethport, PA. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
