Barbara J. Foster of 3766 Hedden Hollow Road, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2012 in the Olean General Hospital following an lengthy illness.
Barb was born on March 23, 1950 in Olean and was a daughter of Elloitt E. and Effie A. Silsby Hurd. She was formerly married to William L. James. On Sept. 8, 1991 in Portville she married Arthur C. Foster, who survives.
Barb was a self employed cosmetologist. She owned and operated her own business call "Taj" located in both Olean and Hinsdale for many years. She will be remembered at a very loving and caring person who loved the Lord with all her heart. She enjoyed cooking and doing crafts but most of all she loved her family and especially her grand and great grandchildren.
Surviving Barb besides her husband of over 20 years are a son, Raymond F. James of Olean; two daughters, Billiejo (Robert) James Brown of Fort Binning, Georgia, and Kimberly D. (Todd) James-Fish of Stafford, Va; a step-son, Michael L. Foster of Phoenix, AZ; a step-daughter, Crystal C. Foster-Updegrove of Eldred, Pa; twelve grandchildren, Kyle Hitchcock, Jake Hitchcock, Barbie Hitchcock, Chelsea Hitchcock, Brooke James , Heather James, Joseph Washington, Shawn Washington, Victoria Washington, Antrika Updegrove, Michael Updegrove and Zoe Updegrove; six beloved great grandchildren; a brother, Randy E. (Nikki) Hurd of Cuba; three sisters, Sandra M. Bellew of Olean, Elaine E. (Michael) Fletcher of Ceres, and Cynthia D. Blaske of Salamanca; and many nieces & nephews.
Barb was pre-deceased by a grandson, Deandra Updegrove; two brothers, John Hurd and Jim Silsby; and seven sisters, Shirley Swick, Evelyn Joyce, Marion Schieler, Joyce Moore, Dorothy Fredrick, Janet Hurd and Sharon Hurd.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2012 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm in the Hinsdale Fire Department. The Rev. John Lousnbury, Pastor of the Corner Stone Baptist Church in Olean, will officiate at 1:00 pm followed by a reception. Burial will be in the Fluvanna Cemetery, Ellicott, NY.
