Nokomis, FL – A. John Stephens "Loving Husband, Father, & Grandfather"
A. John Stephens, of 221 Periwinkle Street, formerly of Olean, passed away on Friday, February 19, 2021, at the Sunset Lake Long Term Facility in Venice, following a lengthy illness.
John was born on October 12, 1932 in St. Mary's, Pennsylvania and was a son of John H. and Mary M. Murphy Stephens. On February 12, 1955, he married his wife of 33 years, Dorothy J. Summerson, who predeceased him on January 23, 1990. On November 24, 1994, he married his wife Helen L. Kyser, who survives.
John was a 1950 graduate of Emporium High School, PA. He continued his education at St. Bonaventure University earning a Bachelor's Degree in Economics in 1954. John worked as a case worker for the Cattaraugus County Support Collections Unit, until his retirement in 1994. He was formerly a member of the Ancient Order of the Hibernians in Olean.
John was an avid Notre Dame football fan. He enjoyed playing poker and travelling around Florida with his wife, Helen, and his poker buddies.
Along with his loving second wife, Helen, John is survived by; 3 children, Larry Stephens, Tom (Pam) Stephens, and Karen (Steven) Hasher; 4 grandchildren, Lauren Stephens, Kathryn Stephens, Taylor Stephens, and Austin Stephens; 4 step-children, Kelly Hinman, Lynne (Tom) Woodin, Lisa (Ken) Gordon, and Richard (Gabrielle) Kyser; 8 step-grandchildren; and 7 step-great grandchildren.
Along with his loving first wife, Dorothy, John was predeceased by a daughter, Gail Welch, and a son-in-law, Ted Welch.
