Steve W. Brainard of 1102 West Sullivan Street, passed away Friday, April 29, 2011 at home following a courageous battle was cancer. Steve was born on May 3, 1948 in Olean and was a son of Byron and Mary Johanne Barton Brainard. On Dec. 24, 1994 he married Christine M. Johnson who survives. Steve was a 1966 graduate of Olean High School. He served in the US Navy during the Vet Nam war from April 25, 1967 to Jan. 4, 1971. Through out his career he worked in grocery stores as managers first for Loblaw's in Olean and while he lived in Arizona for 25 years he worked for ABCO grocery. He moved back to Olean in 1994 he worked for Quality Markets (Penn Traffic) on North Union Street until they closed. Then he worked as a Dealer at Seneca Alleghany Casino until mid 2007 he had to stop due to illness. Steve attended Bethany Lutheran Church. He loved playing golf and he was a avid collector of Stamps & coins. Steve also enjoyed working on models and model rail roads. He was a member of the Olean Stamp Club and a former member of various bowling association. Surviving Steve besides his wife are two sons, Ryan W. (Vicki) Brainard of Portville, and Kyle (Ashley) Brainard of Phoenix, AZ; two daughters, Kelly J. Brainard of Olean, and Katie M. (Chris) Wisniewski of Middletown, CT; and two grandchildren, Bradlee W. and Easton Brainard. Friends will be received on Monday, May 2, 2011 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm in the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. #646 E. State Street, Olean. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at 1:00 pm in the Bethany Lutheran Church. The Rev. Marie A. Meeks, Pastor, will officiate. Burial with full military honors, accorded by the Allegany American Legion Charles Harbel Post #892 Ritual Team, will be in the Allegany Cemetery, Allegany. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Roswell Park Cancer Institute Foundation or to the Olean Rehabilitation Center 1439 Buffalo Street, Olean, New York 14760.
