SISTER CHARLOTTE REILLEY, OSF
Born: Garneita Marie Reilley on December 17, 1924 in Cortland, NY.
Died: March 14, 2020 at St. Elizabeth Motherhouse, Allegany, NY
Daughter of: Leo and Donalda Corl Reilley, Cortland, NY.
Sr. Charlotte entered the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany, NY, on February 2, 1943, was received into
the Congregation on August 15, 1943, and professed her final religious vows on August 16, 1950. As
an Allegany Franciscan, Sister lived and worked for 77 years sharing in the life and mission of the
Congregation.
Sister Charlotte attended schools in Homer and Cortland, NY, beginning at Homer Central School and graduating from St. Mary High School. She attended St. Elizabeth Teacher College in Allegany, NY, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from St. Bonaventure University. Sister also took graduate courses at Cortland State University.
Sister began her ministry in the field of education in congregational schools in Virginia, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Jersey, Florida and New York, including teaching elementary and middle school at St. John Olean, NY; Blessed Sacrament, Utica, NY; and St. Mary in Rome, NY. She was a Religious Education Coordinator at several parishes in which she served; involved in parish ministry and the choir; and later worked in the General Treasury at St. Elizabeth Motherhouse. Prior to retiring in 1995, Sr. Charlotte was Administrative Secretary at St. Mary Hospital Convent, West Palm Beach, FL. She was warmly welcomed home to St. Elizabeth Motherhouse, Allegany, NY in 2013.
Sister Charlotte was predeceased by her parents: Leo and Donalda Reilley, and Sr. Natalina O’Neil, an Allegany Franciscan, who passed away February 13, 2000.
A Wake service will be held Tuesday, March 17, 2020 at 6:30 PM in St. Elizabeth Motherhouse Chapel. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday, March 18, 2020 at 10:00 AM in the Chapel. Burial will follow in St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany, NY.
