Mary Jane Cheladyn Mary Jane Cheladyn formerly of the Dugan Road passed away Thursday October 10, 2013 at her home following an illness. Mary Jane was born on March 12, 1929 in Olean and was a daughter of Clyde and Catherine Keller Bailey. On May 20, 1950 in St. Mary of the Angels Church she married her husband of 57 years Nick Cheladyn, who pre-deceased her on March 31, 2007. Mary was a 1947 graduate of Allegany High School. She held a number of part time positions including Charlie Ried's Grocery Store and WT Grants. She and her husband lived in Florida for about 10 years after he retired and they moved back in about 1996. Mary loved knitting, crocheting, reading (lately Amish books), and talking long rides in the car. She also enjoyed having lunch with her granddaughters at Red's and Trudy's Restaurant in Portville and talking on the phone. In her younger years she will be remembered as an active person who enjoyed entertaining, camping, driving stock cars and she even drove her own motorcycle which she bough after retiring. Mary was a former member of the Weston Mills Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. Mary is survived by a daughter, Deborah A. (Douglas) Pelton of Olean; a son, Michael F. (Jamie Coleman) Cheladyn of Harpers Ferry, West Virginia; six grandchildren, Edward (Rebecca) Cleveland, Megan N. Pelton, Natalie E. Pelton, Kelly A. (Gary) Bock, Kristin A. (David) Clough, and Kari A. (Charlie) Pelton-Moore; nine great grandchildren; a brother, Milton F. (Christine) Bailey of Grass Valley, Ca; two sisters, Florence (Michael) Glover of Olean, and Patricia Carpenter of Buffalo; and several nieces and nephews including a special niece Sally Minihan. As per the family's request visitation and funeral services will be private. The Rev. Suzanne M. Block, Pastor of the Christ United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Mt. View Cemetery Veterans Field of Honor with her husband Nick. Arrangements are under the direction of the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. #646 E. State Street Olean. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Olean Public Library #132 N. 2nd Street, Olean, NY 14760 or the Weston Mills Fire Department, East State Road, Weston Mills NY 14788.
