Jerome L. Anderson, of 483 Indiana Ave, passed away, Monday, April 11, 2016, at the Pines Health & Rehab, following a lengthy illness.
Jerry was born May 26, 1920 in Ridgway, PA and was a son of John A. and Anna Johnson Anderson. On March 27, 1948 in Kane, PA he married his wife of 68 years, Helen Elaine Vail, who survives.
Jerry began working as an Apprentice Electrical Engineer for Elliot Company in Ridgway, Pa before he served in the U.S. Army - 815th Engineer Aviation Battalion from Jan. 22, 1942 to Oct. 21, 1945. He went to work as a carpenter at the Edstrom Construction Company in 1945 until 1969. He continued working with Edstrom as a bidder in the office until his retirement on May 27, 1982. After retirement he volunteered for several years with Interfaith Caregivers and Cattaraugus County Dept. of the Aging.
Jerry was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church for over 65 years. He served on many church boards including being the Chairman of the Building Committee for the new church and was an usher. He was a member of Enchanted Mountains Lodge #252 F&AM. He enjoyed working around his home, gardening and was an avid bowler.
Along with his loving wife, Jerry is survived by two sons, Terry D. (Brenda) Anderson of Grand Junction, CO, and Jeffery J. (Cynthia) Anderson of Jamestown; two daughters, Linda E. Skaarup of Troy, and Lisa J. (George Seamon) Anderson of Allegany; nine grandchildren, Keely Ralston, John Skaarup, Sherri Hansen, Jeffrey Seamon, Anna Seamon, Scott Reuber, Sarah Tunget, Jessica Anderson-Rath, and Lindsey Marowski; and 14 great grandchildren.
Jerry was predeceased by two sisters, Valjean Johnson Coats in 2009 and Irene Starecheski in 2014.
Friends will be received in the Bethany Lutheran Church on Monday, April 18, 2016 from 1:00 to 2:00 pm at which time a Memorial Service will be held. The Rev. Marie A. Meeks, Pastor, will officiate and the Allegany American Legion Charles Harbel Post 892 Ritual Team will accord full military honors at the Church. Burial will be in Allegany Cemetery.
