Howard K. Jaekle

Howard K. Jaekle, Jr. of 709 Lakeview Terrace, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2016 at the Hart Comfort House of Wellsville, following a battle with lung cancer. Howard was born Jan. 18, 1931 in Olean and was a son of Howard K. and Ruth Helen Taylor Jaekle, Sr. He served in the US Army from June 23, 1954 to March 27, 1956. Howard graduated from Olean High School in 1949. In 1954, he graduated from Middlebury College with a bachelor's degree in Economics. Howard had an extensive career in banking. He first started with Marine Midland Bank in Buffalo and then became President of the Olean Savings & Loan Bank. He was very instrumental in the merger between Olean Savings & Loan Bank and Erie County Savings Bank (Big E). Howard, in later years, also taught at Allegany -Cattaraugus County BOCES for a number of years and was a coordinator for Adult Education Programs there also. He was formerly very active in 4-H, where he worked with the Quarter Horse, Steers and the County Fair Programs. Howard was formerly a member of the St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Olean. Howard enjoyed golfing and woodworking and he was always working around the house. He was a Civic minded businessman and was currently the Secretary/Treasurer of the Mt. View Cemetery Association, where he had served on the board for more than 15 years. Howard is survived by his close friend and companion, Helen M. Caya of Olean; three children, Howard K. (Beth) Jaekle, III of Greensboro, NC, Mark S. (Krista) Jaekle of Lockport, and John J. (Elizabeth) Jaekle of Westchester, PA; and seven grandchildren, Madeline, Megan, Savanna, Brooke, Markus, Olivia, and James. Howard was predeceased by a sister, Mary Jane Jaekle. A Private Graveside Memorial Service was held at the Mt. View Cemetery on Thursday, Feb. 4, 2016 at 2:00 PM. The Rev. Gregory J. Dobson, Pastor of the St. Mary of the Angels Church, officiated. Arrangements are under the direction of the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., #646 E. State St., Olean. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to the Mt. View Cemetery, P.O.
