Ellen M. Peck of 3527 Carey Hollow Road, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2017 at Roswell Park Cancer Institute, surrounded by her loving husband and family, following a long battle with lymphoma.
Ellen was born on March 26, 1945 in Olean and was a daughter of John B. and Helen M. Hoffmire Barr, Sr. On June 13, 1964 at St. Bonaventure Parish, she married her husband of 53 years, Horace G. Peck, Jr., who survives.
Ellen was a 1963 graduate of Archbishop Walsh High School. She worked at Allegany-Limestone High School as a Secretary from 1978 to 2008, retiring after 30 years. Ellen was a very active life-long member and volunteer at St. Bonaventure Parish, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister & greeter, and she was the recipient of the "Lay Award of St. Joseph the Worker" on March 18, 2017. She was a member of the Allegany Area Historical Society and the American Legion. Ellen volunteered for Meals on Wheels and at the Olean General Hospital. She enjoyed square Dancing, playing cards, being outside walking with her dog "Lady," hiking on the hill, and family adventures. Ellen truly loved spending time with her family.
Along with her loving husband, Ellen is survived by four children, Beth A. (Peter) Bird of Webster, John P. (Leslie) Peck of Greenwich, Audra M. Lakeman of Lockport, and Matthew G. (Billee Jo) Peck of Cortland; eight grandchildren, Justin & Davis Bird, Michael (Jenna) Halse, Grace, Grant, and Lilly Peck, and Alexandra & Sydney Lakeman; a twin sister, Eileen E. (Robert, Sr.) Shabala of Allegany; three siblings, Mary M. (Francis) Pezzimenti of Olean, Maureen H. Nelson of Frewsburg, PA, and Daniel A. (Sherri) Barr of Olean; many nieces & nephews; and many brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, and friends.
Ellen was predeceased by a son, Horace G. Peck, III; a sister, Patricia A. Carpelletti; a brother, John V. Barr; and a son-in-law, Lawrence W. Lakeman.
Friends will be received at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., 646 E. State Street, Olean on Friday, Sept. 22, 2017 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on at St. Bonaventure Parish, 95 E. Main St., Allegany on Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017 at 9:00 AM. The Rev. James Vacco, Pastor, will celebrate.
