Ameil M. Ash of 310 North 5th St., passed away Thursday, Aug. 22, 2013 at his home following a lengthy illness. Ameil was born Sep. 21, 1923 in Olean and was a son of John J. and Adele Simon Ash. He was a graduate of Olean High School. On July 4, 1946, at St. Joseph's Catholic Maronite Rite Church in Olean, he married his wife of 65 years Mary Kneiser, who predeceased him on November 23, 2011. Ameil was a WWII veteran who served our country from 1943-1945 in the Company C, 7th Inf., 3rd Division, US Army. He served in the Central Europe Rhineland Campaign. Ameil worked at John Ash Dry Cleaners for 70+ years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Ameil was an active member the Archbishop Walsh Booster Club. He was a member of the St. Joseph's Catholic Maronite Rite Church. Ameil served as an altar server and was a member of the Holy Name Society. He was a past president of the St. Joseph's Home School. Ameil also served as a scout master and a basketball coach. He enjoyed bowling and playing cards. Ameil was also an avid Bona's fan and loved the Buffalo Bills and the Buffalo Sabres. His true love was his family and his church. Ameil is survived by three sons, Emil (Susan) Ash, Peter (Mary Kay) Ash, and Paul Ash all of Olean; ten grandchildren; four great grandchildren; three brothers, Nick Ash, Bob Ash, and John Ash, Jr. all of Olean; and three sisters, Elizabeth Ash of Olean, Mary Jane (Charles) Bredeholf of McLean, VA, and Adelle (Louis) Joseph of Anaheim, CA. Along with his loving wife, Ameil was predeceased by a son, David M. Ash in 1970; one sister, Amelia Sheehan; and two brothers, Joseph J. Ash on June 24, 2013, and Fred J. Ash on June 28, 2013. Friends and Family will be received, today Aug. 24, 2013 at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. #646 E. State Street, Olean from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Friends will also be received, Sunday, Aug. 25, 2013 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm & 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. An incense service will be held Sunday evening at 7:30pm. A prayer service will be held Monday, Aug. 26, 2013 at the funeral home at 9:30 am. A Divine Liturgy will be at St. Joseph's Catholic Maronite Rite Church at 10:00 am. The Rev. Anthony J. Salim will celebrate. Burial will be at St. Bonaventure Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Joseph's Parish, 225 North 4th Street, Olean, N.Y. 14760.
